Leyton Orient's most recent promotion was in the 2005/06 season, finishing in 3rd position and gaining automatic promotion to the Coca-Cola League one under the direction of manager Martin Ling. This was the club's first automatic promotion in thirty six years, and ended an era of eleven years in the English league's bottom division. This promotion campaign also witnessed an excellent FA Cup run, with Leyton Orient progressing to the 4th round after defeating Premiership club Fulham F.C..
